The spread of Residential Street Barriers (RSBs) in Jakarta is a well-known phenomenon, yet it remains understudied by scholars. This study seeks to fill this gap by presenting the first comprehensive descriptive study of RSBs in Jakarta. Through a comprehensive examination of the socio-material dimensions surrounding the presence of RSBs, the study provides empirical evidence that the proliferation of RSBs is a cross-class phenomenon and sheds light on the regional variations of RSBs co-emerging with other urban security features such as Guardhouses, Fences, and CCTVs. These intra-city spatial variations are discussed in the context of the socio-spatial transformation of contemporary Jakarta.
